Tony Trout
FOUNDER /ORIGINAL IMPRESARIO
Tony Trout (he/him) is the founder and original impresario of Are We Delicious?, the gloriously chaotic Madison ensemble where performer/writers conceive, write, rehearse, and perform a brand-new original show in just one week. Equal parts theatrical ringmaster, creative instigator, and fearless collaborator, Tony helped build AWD? into one of Madison’s most beloved incubators for wild ideas, bold storytelling, and beautifully unhinged creativity.
A producer, director, actor, and proud graduate of the University of Iowa with a BA in Theatre, Tony has spent decades leaving his mark across the Madison theater scene. His directing credits include A Little Night Music and My Fair Lady for Four Seasons, as well as Uncle Vanya, Apartment 3A, and numerous other productions for Strollers Theatre. As a performer, he has delivered fantastic turns as George in Alley Stage’s production of Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? and Bernard in Mercury Players Theatre’s production of A Number.
Since founding AWD? in 2012, Tony has championed a creative philosophy that throws perfectionism out the window in favor of immediacy, collaboration, and joyful artistic risk-taking. Under his leadership, the company produced nearly 30 original productions spanning comedy, drama, mystery, musicals, and everything in between.
In April 2023, Tony officially passed the AWD? torch to longtime company veterans Stacey Garbarski and Gina M. Gomez, though his spirit, influence, and deliciously daring creative legacy remain baked into the company’s DNA forever.
